Olympic Fiasco

Many around the world saw the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The opening ceremony featured a scene depicting the Lord’s Last Supper with drag queens and perverse innuendos. Jesus was played by an overweight “queen” and the apostles were mocked with people wearing seductive fashions and acting out in suggestive manners. It was a twisted re-imaging of Leonardo Di Vinci’s famous painting of the Last Supper.

The French Bishops released a statement expressing deep regret over “scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity, which we deeply deplore… This morning, we think of all Christians on all continents who have been hurt by the outrage and provocation of certain scenes… We hope they understand that the Olympic celebration extends far beyond the ideological preferences of some artists”. The Bishops thanked members of other religious denominations who have expressed their solidarity with French Catholics. Huge crowds of French citizens have been gathering peacefully in Paris to protest and pray in reparation.

In recent years we have seen how radical forces have imposed pride month, parades, “trans readings” for children at local libraries, and have co-opted events like the Super Bowl half-time show presenting obscene and occult music, themes, costumes, dance and images. But the Olympic Games, a revered tradition of global athletic competition by the world’s youth, have been soiled like a baby’s diaper by this latest stunt. It can only be understood as a direct attack upon the Catholic Mass, a heinous sacrilege that offends all noble sensibilities.

We must offer prayers and Masses in reparation for this blasphemy, to repair for the insult that has been directed at the Heart of Jesus and the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We will be offering a Holy Hour of reparation for this purpose on Monday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m. Join us for this occasion and keep this intention in your prayers.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
